THE SPEAKER -- His Passion & Drive

For over a decade, Mike Domitrz has been inspiring students, educators, parents, and professionals with his hilarious sense of humor and his uncanny ability to draw hard-hitting emotion from audiences. Schools, organizations, parents, and students constantly rave about what a lasting impact Mike has with everyone in attendance.

Why does Mike Domitrz have such an intense passion and drive to dramatically change society's approach to healthy dating and to create a better understanding of how "consent" is obtained in intimacy?

In 1989, he received a phone call that his sister had been raped. As he held the phone tightly to his ears, he simply could not believe what he was hearing.  For two years, he struggled to deal with the rape and the effect it had on his life -- both as the brother of a rape victim and as a man. During this time, Mike was in college and he discovered that no one was addressing one of the most serious causes of sexual assault -- a lack of having consent.   The average person was NOT relating to the importance of needing to have permission before engaging in an intimate act with another person. Most individuals did not even realize that their current dating practices were based on standards of disrespect.  Mike decided to make a difference.

As he researched the issue of sexual assault and dating, he constantly heard people complaining that most sexual assault seminars and experts were boring and depressing. Parents were saying, "My child would never do that", but their kids were doing "that" and worse. Mike knew what needed to be done.

He started a "one person show" that used humor in a powerful and effective manner ~ humor that would open people's minds. Once people were laughing, they were much more likely to listen. With everyone's attention glued to the program, Mike then shows the devastation and trauma caused by sexual assault. The name of Mike's program became "Can I Kiss You?" and has gone onto to be presented in hundreds schools, universities, and conferences throughout the United States and Canada. His personal mission has produced a truly interactive and engaging program that inspires change in the lives of each audience member.

While originally designing and producing "Can I Kiss You?", Mike compiled extensive research from a diverse group of resources throughout the world to insure his programs were accurate, honest, and delivering a healthy message.  After years of success in educating society, Mike is now considered one of the most sought-after experts addressing consent, healthy dating, sexual assault awareness, and the keys to supporting survivors.  In fact, sexual assault survivors praise Mike for teaching people of all ages how to "Open the Door" to loved ones so that children and family members are more likely to speak out when sexually assaulted.

Mike continues to hear from teenagers, parents, singles, educators, sexual assault survivors, professionals, rape crisis centers, national organizations, and media from around the world. While many experts information is based solely on research, Mike stays in-touch with today's students, singles, and parents as he continues to travel North America. By doing so, he has a clearer and more up-to-date understanding of what everyone is experiencing in the current dating world.

Mike Domitrz was not content.  He wanted to create a national organization that would produce powerful educational initiatives and products to be utilized in communities across the world.  Thus, the creation of The Date Safe Project.

THE AUTHOR
                       -- Books, DVDs, & Writings

As Mike was speaking throughout the country, he was continually receiving requests from students, educators, and professionals to write a book that would share the powerful lessons he reveals in his "Can I Kiss You?" program.  May I Kiss You? A Candid Look at Dating, Communication, Respect, & Sexual Assault AwarenessPeople wanted a resource that was just like his presentations -- interactive, humorous, challenging, emotionally honest, and filled with skill building activities.  From that demand, Mike wrote May I Kiss You? in 2003 . . . to rave reviews.

While writing his first book, he was already planning for his second.  From the inspiration of his own sister and the many survivors he had met over the years, Mike  wanted to write a book that would demonstrate the incredible strength and courage sexual assault survivors display on a daily basis.  In 2005, he brought twelve survivors of sexual assault together from around the country to share their personal journey to healing and recovery in the critically-acclaimed book Voices of Courage

You can learn much more about Mike's books and all his educational products (CDs, T-shirts, buttons, and posters) in the "Educational Tools & Products" section of this website.
