COMMUNITY VIOLENCE
INTERVENTION CENTER submission
This April we conducted a
variety of sexual assault awareness activities on our college campus, at an
area high school, on the Grand Forks Air Force Base (GFAFB), and in the
community. We distributed 50,000 beverage napkins to 19 restaurants and
bars and 1,200 coffee sleeves to a local coffee shop that said, “Decide To
End Sexual Violence” and listed an 800 crisis line number. We delivered
several presentations on sexual assault to various groups including: the
local Task Force with 33 area professionals attending, a fraternity on the
University of North Dakota campus with 29 guys attending, two presentations
to an area high school with 79 students attending, and three 1 hour training
sessions to Security Forces at the GFAFB with a total of 38 cops attending.
We set up an informational booth at the Memorial Union on campus for 3 days
and distributed printed material as well as 750 free highlighters with the
“Decide To End Sexual Violence” message and suckers with sexual assault
statistics attached to the stem. The Women’s Center on campus also held a
production of the Yellow Dress, with 60 people in attendance. We’ve
had a very busy month!
Thanks!

NORTHERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY submission
On behalf of everyone who put long hours into working on April Sexual Assault
Awareness Month, I would like to thank you for letting us use "Can I kiss
you?" tagged with your website.
Due to the fact that they were t-shirts and our committee (12 students) were
scrambling to get everything done, we could not send a sample but they were
black t-shirts with teal writing which on the front said "Can I kiss you?"
and on the back read "www.canikissyou.com."
My sociology group wore these t-shirts at an awareness fair, for a presentation,
and for the "hear us roar" -- NMU's own personal rape stories told by students.
Thanks to the dedication and long hours put in by Lina, Sara, and Amanda, Sexual
Assault Awareness Week was more than a success. The weeks events were thus:
MONDAY, April 9th
• Walk a Mile in her Shoes march
http://www.walkamileinhershoes.org/
• Mini-RAD Self Defense session
TUESDAY, April 10th
• Lori Robinson came to NMU to speak about her book “I Will Survive: The African
American to Healing from Sexual Assault and Abuse”
www.LoriRobinson.com
WEDNESDAY, April 11th

the stories will be from NMU student survivors/victims) - 7:30pm in JXJ 103

Numerous Student Organizations
Community and campus alike participated and showed compassion while being
educated of the information given at the events.
My sociology group showed support for every event and we now have our own
website that will be added to NMU's Health Promotion's website.
As more time and effort was put in to making this event happen, more people in
my group were opening up and talking about the reality of rape, the taboo
subject to many. Your website's were extremely helpful tools in this process.
I want to thank Mike Domitrz and The Date Safe Project
again for all that you've done, and I for one can say that more people at NMU
are now more educated on rape and sexual assault due to your websites. I am in
aw of all that you have done.
